    At Lord Droth's

Posted by Kryschenn on 9/20/2000, 1:31 am , in reply to "Re: Your Pardon, Lady!"

    This was dumb.

No, check that. This was really, really dumb.

What was she doing here, with none of her friends with her, at the door of a man who had tried to accuse her of a murder he probably planned, in the company of a merchant who didn't trust her and two guards who really didn't like her? And just why had the guards at the gate of the castle let her, a murder suspect, leave with only a spit-at-thy-feet? She really didn't like this. Was she walking into something? Why hadn't she stopped to ask along one of her friends? Faira's Earth-magic or Zeo and her backpack would come in real handy right now. She wished Cole and his mind-gem was here to sense if the occupants of the building were planning a trap.

"Really thought this one through, didn't you, Kryssie?" she chided herself. But at the moment she was a little too committed to turn back. Either that or she should BE committed to an institution for this. Placing her hand on the hilt of her sheathed sword, she stared into the dark building. If she drew now, it would only make it look like she was the hostile one. So the sword stayed basically sheathed, even though she did draw it a few inches.

She knew better than to enter someone's residence without a welcome. But despite the way the door swung open, it didn't look like there was anyone here to greet the petitioners at the door. "I think we should make our presence known," she replied to Yodel. "And if no one heard the door knocker, let's go ahead and announce ourselves." Stepping over the threshold, she drew in a deep breath and shouted, "We bae here t' see Laird Droth!"

The sudden switch to a Scottish accent caught her by surprise, but pondering it would just have to wait.
