    Shock treatment

Posted by Kryschenn on 9/22/2000, 11:03 pm , in reply to "Hush "

Kryschenn stared at the girl, utterly dumbfounded, but at least Fairalin had finally gotten her attention. "I..." she managed weakly. "...I don't feel very good."

Though the faerie had given Krys's body the energy to heal itself quickly, the emotional strain had taken a high toll. Shaking from head to toe, she noticed a wall to lean on and sagged against it. She tried at all costs not to look at the mauled bodies strewn about the room. "Faira, this scares me. Yeah, I mean, I guess it was self defense." A haunted expression dulled her eyes as she looked at the blood on her hands. "But the basic rule I try to live by is 'Harm None.' To think that I did this, that I got so angry that I totally lost control and slaughtered these assassins and I...I can't remember..." Quickly, she wiped away the tears in her eyes, which only served to smear the already bloody mess on her face. "Faira, please, can you understand why this scares me? How can I trust myself? I just found out I can go totally nuts and have no idea what I'm doing! What if something happens and I hurt one of my friends?" Fortunately, at the moment she still had no inkling of her berserk episode the night before in which she'd tried to disembowel Cole. Bracing her hands on her knees, she took a few deep gasps to try to get control of herself.

Eventually, still exhausted, she looked up at Faira and smiled wanly. "Um, thanks. Thanks for coming for me. And knocking some sense into me. You're right, I've got to deal with this. But I think maybe right now we better just get out of here. And get cleaned up." Glancing at the blood staining her armor, she tried hard to keep her breakfast where it belonged. "This was more than self defense," she continued, a little more strongly now. "This was a trap. They were trying to set me up. Me specifically or an Outworlder in general, I don't know. Almost the whole palace guard was involved. I'm probably in for life for this if they don't believe me, but the princess needs to know that the people she's been trusting were all paid assassins."

Finding her sword in the corner where she had first collapsed, Kryschenn did her best to wipe the blade clean and sheathed it. She was so exhausted that she wasn't sure she could walk very far by herself. Putting a grateful if unsteady arm around Fairalin's shoulders, she wondered if there was a pond or stream somewhere private and nearby where she could get cleaned up. Then she would have to explain to the princess why she had just single-handedly slaughtered almost the entire palace guard.

This was definitely not turning out to be one of her better days.
