She felt the damp, cold stones beneath her and a chill in the musty air that surrounded her. She opened her eyes. There must have been torches down the hall because there was a faint flickering of light within the almost total darkness. The girl pulled her knees to her chest and curled up into a fetal position. She was cold, scared, in pain, and totally alone. “Somebody?” she said in a weak voice, “Anybody? Is there anyone else here?” She shivered at the silence and salty tears streamed down her face.
