"From your lips to the gods' ears, Dan," said Thothalas to the adventurer. "Nothing would make me happier if we never saw the witch again."

"Sterling," began the elven mage hesitantly, "magic is tricky business. The more you use it, the more likely it will fail... most likely horribly and painfully. Even now as we walk, I am having to center my spirit in preparations for the magework ahead. If I am not ready or am too weak when the time comes for our spells, the charm will be flawed or the portal will fail. I know our need is great, but even magic has its limits.

"There might be a way, however," he continued hurriedly as if he had to say what he had to say before he thought better of it. "A trap detection spell is a relatively simple spell but with what I have ahead, I can't chance it. Ashleyien, if you are willing, I could try to show you a simple cantrip that should satisfy our protection need without compromising our future castings.

"If you choose to try then take an object. Hold it in your hand; and in your mind's eye, picture a terrifying trap but do not fear it. Hold the magic inside you then spin the energies outward and bind the danger to the object in your hand. The power is an infinitely flexible strand; tie it off as you would a delicate thread. Then the object will show when a trap is near."

(OOC: Sorry if I'm making my magic really difficult; I just want to make it mysterious. I don't want to become a munchkin and ruin play for everybody so I try to keep ol' Thoth from being too powerful but still help out when he can.)
