She focused her gaze on the center of the crystal ball, and her mind on what she wanted to see within it: where Tommy was currently. Long moments stretched on, yet no image appeared before her. She sighed. The number you have dialed is out of service. Please hang up and try again.
Shooing that thought away, she tried finding Tommy's body, corpse, ashes, remains, whatever... The ball stayed stubbornly blank. Where ever Tommy had gotten off to, it was either warded against scrying or someplace her crystal ball's powers couldn't reach, such as another dimension. But how could she find out which it was? She could try asking the ball to show her what had happened, but she had no idea if it could show the past...
Ah-ha! Celeste concentrated on finding any traces Tommy's passage left behind. The crystal ball quickly displayed a close up of very faint tracks, ones she wouldn't have seen without the crystal ball's aid. The image zoomed out to place the tracks into context, and she realized they led down the branch they hadn't taken. They continued a little way down the tunnel, then stopped abruptly, as if Tommy had disappeared between one step and the next.
Feeling increasingly uneasy, she let the image vanish. Returning her attention to the rest of the group, Celeste waited until Kryschenn finished questioning the stranger who'd abruptly shown up, then moved closer to her.
"Krys?" Celeste asked to get her attention. "Do you know if Tommy's weapon has any dimension travelling abilities?"
