'Oooooooookay, what am I doing here?' Kryschenn wondered, walking a little ways down the tunnel to try to get a feel for where she was. 'I'm in a cave. Okay, I got that. But this doesn't look like the Oregon Caves tour that I take on my birthday every year...so it...can't be my birthday. Can it? No...and I've never been to a rodeo either.' Her still somewhat addled brain mistook the sounds of the fight in the pit with the umber hulk for a bull-roping competition. 'Hey, this is a nice costume,' she realized, looking down at her armor. "Am I in a play or something? No, I can't be. I'm in... a cave...but why am I in a cave?'A strage, surging sound behind her made her turn around, following the sound with her eyes until she spotted something, no, several somethings; somethings with malevolent eyes, hissing and snapping, emerging from a fissure in the wall that was half-hidden by a large boulder. Dozens of small, ugly, evil looking creatures were filling the tunnel and coming at her. Maybe three feet tall, they had ugly, reptilian heads and rows of vicious teeth in their slavering mouths, and claws that could clearly rend flesh with little hesitation. Taken aback, she looked up over the heads of the creatures, spotting Celeste a little way down the hall. 'Oh, I get it!' she said, unheeding as the foul creatures filled the passage between her and the Diviner, some scrabbling towards her while others turned on Celeste. 'I'm in a sequel to Gremlins!' She smiled and waved at Celeste. "Hey, camera-lady!" she shouted. "Did you forget your camera?"
Perhaps the effect of the umber hulk's stare had finally worn off. It could have been the look on Celeste's face. Maybe it was the realization that special effects weren't quite so advanced as to have perfected robotic creatures that moved, sounded, and smelled like this. Or maybe it was because one of the blasted things clawed her. Either way, it finally dawned on Kryschenn just where she was. And she realized that she had just been cut off from her friends by a horde of malicious, hungry, Gremlin-like creatures that seemed to be sizing her up for dinner.
"Shytte..." she muttered, drawing her sword as another one lunged menacingly closer. "All right, you asked for it!" she shouted, slicing downward in a lightning-fast move that split the creature's skull and cut it into two large chunks . "Who's next?" she demanded, noticing with dismay that the creatures were only taken aback for a split-second before surging towards her again. Then she noticed something else. The two pieces of the dead creature weren't dead. Not by a long shot.
She could not even think of a word to shout. She could only stare, horrified, backing away in alarm when the two halves of the creature rose up, each a new, whole, and very angry-looking monster which joined the massive tide of beasts seething toward her.
