"One side, prisoners!" yelled Sterling as he shoved both Zak and Tommy to one side of the stairway as the guards came charging past them. While most of them ran by, one of them stopped and eyed the two prisoners curiously although he himself was still more than a little frightened as well as quite wet."Soldier!" cried the Dark Elf in the best command voice that he could muster. The warrior cast his attention on the Drow. "Name! Rank!"
"Uh...Tavers, Corporal, Palace Guard." stammered the young man uncertainly as he gave a weak salute. "And you, sir?" Sterling smiled to himself evilly as he realized that he not only had a grunt in his midst, but also a non-commissioned grunt as well. This was going to be fun!
"N'zir Drythir, Captain of the Shadow Riders, what the hell is going on here?!" demanded Sterling angrily.
"Uh...we were just going up to check up on the prisoners. We heard the howling and--" began Tavers with some trouble, as the howling itself increased in frequency.
"Yes, I can hear that," commented the Swordsman dryly. "Don't concern yourself about the prisoners, corporal. As you can see, they are in good hands. You and your men have new orders! Find the source of that howling and put an end to it! If its some animal, muzzle it or put it out of misery! I don't care which, just silence it quickly! I don't want to disturb, Lord Venger, and I am quite sure that you don't want too either if you know what's good for you! Understand, soldier?"
"Yes, sir!" snapped Tavers getting better control of himslef now that he and his men had a clearer set of orders and a mission to achieve.
"Carry on, Corporal Tavers!" saluted the Dark Elf as he continued to push the prisoners downstairs. Tavers returned D'yvar's salute and ran upstairs to reach his men and give them their new orders.
'That was easy',thought Sterling to himself as they made it down to the next level. 'I wonder if all of Venger's troops are as bright eyed and bushy tailed as that one. Oh well, we'll see soon enough!' For the Dark Elf noticed a second group of soldiers coming towards them at this point.
