Rose kept silent as she was led away from the doorway and to Lord Venger's throne. Reginald the guard had her arm in a hard grip and she knew she would have a bruise to show for it. She kept her hands clenched into fist and let puzzlement show on her face. A moment later, the leader, Bull, came into the room still shouting various orders to the men. She heard the noise the shutting the first half of the great door made and turned to look at him. She watched him warily and noticed the suspicion in his eyes.
He stood before her staring with narrowed eyes as if trying to figure something out. Finally she asked, "What is the meaning of this m'kind sir? Have we not performed ta yer liking? We would be more than happy ta make ammends. Being restrained and recalling my troupe with force isn't necessary."
"Then I s'pose you can tell me why you had my men cornered into the room like you did with that story?" he said roughly. It would be his and his fellow guards' fault if something happened. Lord Venger was NOT to be disturbed this night under penalty of severe punishment and that howling was more than likely to have had disturbed him.
Rose blinked and said smoothly, "I was merely telling yerself and yer men a tale which ye paid for. If yer men found themselves moved by my tale, even to the corner of the room, I'm flattered. But we had nothing to do with the commotion heard. How could we? I was here and my troupe have left the fortress," she finished reasonably.
Bull just snorted and said, "We'll wait and see what Lord Venger wishes done with you." Bull definitely wanted a scapegoat to fall to Venger's wrath and it wasn't going to be him or his men!
Rosalia sighed and clenched her fists tighter. She hoped her companions had made it to the tents safely and left when the horrible howling sounded. She waited for her own chance to break away, for she was not going to face Lord Venger's questioning if she could help it.
