((er...um...some options:1.We could say it IS the real one that Cassandra has, only the Guardian is uncontrollable without the complete staff/orb combo. And then only when controlled by someone who has the sacred words or something (these being passed down by the royal family, etc).
2. Venger planted a fake orb, but thought we HAD found the real one based on Zak's words. (Because Zak thought they had the real one). In a fun twist, perhaps Kimmy the Kender found it in her wanderings, and "borrowed" it, but doesn't know what it is. That way Venger DID sense it had been found, but doesn't know who has it, and he vanished off to gloat when he figured out that the one that Cassandra found was his fake one...
