    our story so far...

Posted by Zakiyah on 9/2/2000, 7:55 pm

((Since everyone seems to be taking a bit of a break, thought I'd rehash the events into some semblance of order and make sure we all have the same story about what's going on...))

Upon our entry into Yarfell, the cast discovered several things:
    1. There is a guardian that lies beneath the city that can be controlled by the one who wields the complete Staff of Yarfell, made up of the staff (in pieces, hidden below the city) and the Orb (currenly in Venger's posession)
    2. Terry the dreamer, as well as the other Young Ones (aged five years from the children of the series), were in the city, preparing to defend it from Venger.
    3. Terry was in a coma, nobody could wake her
    4. the Queen was preparing to surrender the city to Venger.
    5. HAnk and Sheila were still not a couple, and this had to be remedied.

Zak discovered a history of the staff, and also discovered that it was one of three staffs of great power hidden throughout the Realm, and when the three were used together, a permanent portal to another world could be created. Venger obviously wants this power for himself, but the Earth Gang wants it more- they just want to get home.

Cole the mentalist, aided by Iris, entered Terry's mind and there did battle with a Treabor, a dream demon, who had invaded Terry's dreams. The Treabor was defeated, and Cole learned that he was the last survivor of a powerful family of mentalists, and that the gem he thought was a Marvelesque "Mind Gem" (from the Infinity Guantlet/Adam WArlock series) was actually the Stone of Zarpathos. Cole's not sure what to make of this, but Venger's furious about it.

Kryschenn and Cassandra, exploring the caves and catacombs beneath the city, found a glowing orb. To protect the orb from Venger, Cassandra gave Kryschenn a clever fake and held onto the original herself. Thus, when Kimmy and Zakiyah met up with them later, both believed Kryschenn held the Orb.

The rest of the day was spent preparing for a masquarade ball, scheduled for that evening. The ball, a traditional celebration in the City of Yarfell, was scheduled in spite of the impending doom, to keep people's mind's off of the coming surrender. The Princess had assured the city that Venger would not harm or enslave the inhabitants if they did not resist him. The matchmakers of the group hatched a plan to hook up Hank and Sheila, which involved making them dance to romantic music. If that didn't work, Link would dress up as the Ranger and start hitting on Sheila to make Hank jealous enough to step in.

During the hustle and bustle of the ball, nobody noticed that someone had snuck into Terry's room and freed the Treabor, which returned to Venger to make its report.

Night Steel the ninja also made his first appearance, and appears to have taken a big liking to Sailor Zeo. Perhaps this signals the first blossoms of romance for our Earth travelers...? Of course, there is also the suspicious DISappearance of Bubbles Hentai and Tommy Tanaka (an encounter which leaves Tommy suspicously enhausted) so one can only wonder...

The ball and plan worked-- until the arrival of the Princess Diana ended the imminent Kiss of True Love between Hank and Sheila. Annoyed by her ill timing, as well as the Princess's plan to turn over the city, Cassandra accused the girl of betraying her people, and Fairalin crashed a chandalier on the assembly in a fit of temper. The Princess, being a fair-minded woman, did not arrest either of them but called for forgiveness for her plan- a plan which would ensure the safety and the lives of her subjects for the small price of letting Venger take the guardian. This wouldn't have gone over well, and even the Princess begins to question her judgement, but her advisor (an ugly, thin man who resembles Jafar) appears to make her stick to her plan. Given the strange behaviour of the princess after that, it becomes apparent to the gang that the princess is being controlled, possibly even bespelled or drugged.

Shadowdemon shows up at the ball as well, amidst the commotion, and forces Zakiyah to point out who has the Orb (Zakiyah being under a geis to tell the truth if she knows it). The false advisor calls for Kryschenn's arrest. KRyschenn escapes into the halls where she encounters Venger himself, who blasts her with a fireball (thinking she has the Orb). The injuries send Kryschenn into a berserker rage and she attacks Venger with her magical sword. Cole, Fairalin, Fay, Zeo, and Night Steel also enter the fray. Sailor Zeo channels Sailor Pluto, as she can do in dire emergencies though it wipes her out afterward, and traps Venger's second fireball in a handly container.

MEanwhile, Cassandra, believing herself in posession of the real orb, attempts to raise the Guardian without the rest of the staff. Though at first she believes it is the true Guardian, she soon finds out that it was a false Orb planted by Venger's doppleganger servant, who had previously stolen the orb and turned it over to his master. The Guardian promises to aid her in her fight against Venger, and in leading her back to the main hall, Cassandra spies the advisor in conference with the Princess. Calling his bluff, the advisor- the doppleganger- turns into a raging demon.

Venger- realizing that the newcomers from Earth did NOT have the true orb as he'd feared they might have, vanishes from the encounter. Kryschenn, sill in her Berserker rage, turns on her companions. Cole tries to stop her with a psi bolt, but it is Iris's music that eventually knocks Kryschenn out. Fay and Fairalin together manage to heal Kryschenn's injuries, Fay discovering that she HAS healing abilities as well as poetical skill.

The doppleganger/demon has arrived at this point, and is menacing the gang when EO, still in her guise of a powerful (yet silly-looking) FruFru Beast, kills it from behind with a single swipe of her powerful claws. Zak and Cassandra's minds have been taken over by the False Guardian spirit, trying to force Cassandra to give up her body and Zak to seek out the remaining Staff pieces. Zak is freed by Iris's jangling, dischordant music, but Cassandra is still battling the Spirit (whom she believes to be another doppleganger but may be something else entirely).

Bubbles makes a fashionably late entrance to the party only to find that it's over. She's furious to find that she missed Venger's appearance, which makes Eric the Cavalier a wee bit nervous about her motives.

Venger has returned to his castle, content that his plan is still working dispite those new meddling kids from Earth. He has the true orb and it is only a matter of time before those meddlesome Earthlings discover the remaining staff pieces for him. He's miffed at the Lorekeeper, though- she's broken her neutrality and has access to information about the rest of the staffs' locations-- and he's also predicting that they will try to steal back the Orb from his castle in the near future. He's planning a big surprise for them when they do...

((Feel free to add if I missed anything important...))
