"Sorry, Zak, I'm no artist." She studied the dagger. "Nice work. Throwing daggers are made so if you throw them, they'll stick in an object point-first, but they can be used for anything you'd use a normal dagger or knife for too. It is a bit plain, though--do you mind if I try to change it a bit with my lute?"Zak shook her head, and Iris set the dagger down and got to work. "A dagger gleaming bright steel-blue/I see one, but I'd like two/Straight, strong, sharp, and fit for a bard/Balanced for throwing, that can't be hard/Give them sheaths to wear on my belt/Sparkling like Hanukkah gelt."
The dagger glowed so brightly not even an outline could be seen. When the glow faded, there were two daggers with rainbowy hilts and gilded sheaths. Iris picked them up and clipped them to her belt, one on each hip. She jotted down her spellsong and set the book and quill to one side, looking around. Then in a blur of motion she whirled, drawing one dagger, and threw it. THUNK! It hit a nearby tree, sticking near the center of a knot where a branch had grown.
"Perfect!" She retrieved her dagger, then turned to Sterling. "Shall we begin?"
((BTW, gelt is money, usually coins, given to Jewish children at Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. I was raised Jewish but don't really practice. Next!))
