: Zak had been musing silently to herself, and
: now comes out with, "Hang on,
: Cole....you're saying that there's an
: illusionist in there that gave everyone in
: and outside the city the impression that
: it was under seige by orcs...? Why?
: Venger would know if they weren't HIS
: orcs, and it's Venger we're supposed to
: prevent Diana from handing over the city
: to...So which side is the illusionist on?
: I mean, now everyone knows the orcs were
: fakes....did I miss something while I was
: poring over my book again...?"
: Zak looks back at her notes, but they're not

"Zak, do you mind if I take a look at your book? I'd like to see what DM's exact words were." Tommy leaned over the book. "Hmm....interesting. Has anyone considered the possibility that Diana might be less than reluctant about surrendering her kingdom to Venger? Just because she's Zaramedes' daughter doesn't automatically make her one of the good guys. Maybe it's just my paranoid gamer's mind looking for conspiracies, but I think it's pretty obvious there's something more going on here than meets the eye. I know it would have given us less time to operate in the city, but if we'd travelled through the kingdom to get here we'd at least have the general populace's take on the situation. DM did say we'd have to 'discover' something about this situation. Perhaps one of Diana's trusted advisors is in Venger's pay? We need to learn more."
Tommy paused as Fairalin updated the group on the appearance of the approaching defenders.
"This could be just a coincidence, but we may be about to meet some of DM's old pupils. If this is the case, it seems unlikely that they would be party to just handing the kingdom over to Venger. Unless they know something we don't. Of course, they could be normal people acting the roles of the 'Young Ones' to pacify the populace, or even agents of Venger convincing Diana to side with Venger. We're hampered by a serious lack of intelligence, which can only be remedied by talking to people. So let's go up there with a white flag of truce and see if we can't turn this situation to our advantage, neh?"
