Unable to help the Lorekeeper while holding the psi-shields, he could only watch as she was walking away, compelled to do so by something evil. He thought about 'shooting the hostage' to get her to stop walking, but reconsidered as the only thing he had on him to throw was the sword and the Mentalist didn't want to risk accidentaly cutting Zak in half.
